Since the inception of the web, there have been 4 clear eras: text, table-based design, web standards, and responsive design. The next era of the web is performance, and I think it’s already started.
No web person can write a succinct article about the latest “web is slow” discussion because web performance is horribly complex.
Several people I follow (and genuinely respect) have been subtly arguing that the web is in danger of going away in favor of native apps. I don’t buy it.
